Discover the untouched beauty of nature in Ivalo, Finland on a unique Husky Week. This tour offers you the opportunity to steer your own dog sled, experience the traditional Finnish sauna, and observe the breathtaking Aurora.
Travel Itinerary: Your Husky Week in Ivalo
Your adventure begins with your arrival at the Husky Camp, run by German immigrants Markus and Josephin. They emigrated to Finland in 2015 and now live there with 27 huskies, some of which they have taken in from bad conditions. The dogs are treated like family members here, and the camp is a true paradise for animal lovers. In addition to the huskies, there are also free-range organic chickens and yaks, Mongolian cattle, roaming around. Depending on your flight times, you will arrive in the afternoon or evening and be warmly welcomed. After an introduction to the camp, you will enjoy a traditional Finnish dinner and prepare for the days to come.
After breakfast, you will participate in a theory workshop where you will learn the basics of mushing. You will then have the opportunity to put your newly acquired knowledge into practice with your first dog sled ride. The next 3 days will be dedicated to dog sledding. You will steer your own team through the breathtaking landscape of Ivalo, the last European winter wilderness. Experience everything that Finnish cuisine, culture, and scenery have to offer. Each evening, a traditional Finnish sauna evening, including an ice bath, awaits you. You can explore the area, go ice fishing, embark on a husky trekking tour, or simply enjoy the tranquility. In the afternoons, you will indulge in a relaxing hot pot wellness session. During the tour, you will have a lunch break to savor the peace and beauty of Lapland.
After a final breakfast at the camp, you will be transported to the airport. With unforgettable memories, you will begin your journey back home. This vacation not only offers you a unique nature experience but also provides insight into the lives of immigrants and their animals in the Finnish wilderness.
Participants will return to the same camp every day and stay in a cozy yet rustic guesthouse. There are double rooms available with a shared bathroom and shower, which will be shared with a maximum of four other participants.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc).
