Christmas and New Years Eve Special with Huskies and Reindeers
With huskies and reindeers in Swedish Lapland: Spend Christmas & New Year's Eve in a very special way!
Celebrate XMAS or New Year in a white winter wonderland – you will be mushing your own dog team on daytrips, visit a reindeer corral, and enjoy a three-course dinner in a traditional hut!
During this special Christmas and New Year trip, you will stay in our log cabin directly next to the husky farm and take daily trips to the stunning snowy landscape on the edge of the Arctic Circle. Be actively involved and get to know the work with the huskies in a small group. After an exciting day and a good meal, you can relax in the woodstove sauna and, with a bit of luck, you will also see the Northern Lights.
For the first two days of this tour, you will learn in detail the basics of dog sledding and the training of the dogs while enjoying Christmas or the New Year in a very special way. You will enjoy the fantastic winter landscape from a dogsled on two day tours. We use shared sleds, one will steer and one will sit on the sled. These sleds are much easier to control and it will give the one that sits the opportunity to take photos. You drive with small teams, which consist of 4-6 dogs per team and so you will get to know and appreciate the loyal huskies very fast. You drive up to 30 km per day through different terrain in the wilderness of Sweden. It goes over frozen lakes and snow-covered forests whose trees bend under the weight of snow to the ground.
On the third day we will visit a reindeer corral where we will meet a reindeer herder and eat lunch around the fire in a traditional tipi tent. Here, we will learn about the life of a reindeer family and Sami culture.
On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve you will enjoy a homemade three course dinner in a traditional kata – a hut with an open fire. To celebrate the occasion, you will be served specialties like salmon, reindeer and moose meat.
Included in the tour price are:
- sledding with a shared dog team on two days
- visit to a reindeer corral
- 3 course menu on Christmas and New Years Eve
- accommodation in a log cabin with sauna
- all meals
- warm clothes and winter boots.
Number of participants:
2-4 persons (closed group of 4 persons also possible)
Prerequisites:
No prior experience with dogsled required; normal fitness is required. The minimum age is 12 years.
Accommodation:
The log cabin has a basic, but comfortable standard. It is heated by a heat pump, which keeps the cabin at a constant comfortable temperature. There is electricity and a 4G signal for internet, but the water comes from a water canister with a tap. There is no shower, but there is a washing room inside the cabin and you can also use the sauna for washing every day. The toilet is outside, but has a nice styrofoam seat, so you can sit comfortably warm even on cold days! There are two sleeping rooms, a 4-person room with bunk beds and a 2-person room with 2 single beds.
How to get there:
If you come from abroad, you can take a flight to Arlanda Airport/ Stockholm and then take the comfortable night train directly from the airport to Murjek, where we can pick you up. It’s a relaxed and comfortable way of getting here as well as it’s better for the environment – still it will take you a little longer then flying the whole way. Mind that we can only pick you up from the train that arrives at midday, and not the early morning train!
Alternatively, you can book a connecting flight from Stockholm / Arlanda to Kallax Airport in Luleå. From Luleå you can take the bus line 44 from the bus station in the city centre to our place in Kåskats (price 274 SEK, discounts for children and students). There is even a special flight taxi (line 712) at a heavily discounted price (adults 370 SEK, children up to 18 years 185 SEK, family 740 SEK). You will need to book this special flight taxi in advance, and you will need to be able to show the flight number of your connecting flight. We can make the booking for you. A regular taxi costs around 3000 SEK pp for a shared taxi and 4000 SEK for a private taxi 1-4 persons.

We want to create a 100% smoke free and perfume free environment, and we therefore respectfully ask smokers to book elsewhere. We also want to ask you kindly, not to use any strongly perfumed products like deodorant or perfume on this holiday.
Additional Information:
The order of tours and activities within this itinerary may vary due to weather conditions and other contributing factors that must be taken into account by the guides when planning your tour. You will receive the exact order of activities once you arrive on site. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. The safety of guests and animals comes first, and for this reason, we reserve the right to change the itinerary and intensity of activities if and when needed. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc).
