Wilderness Tour through Fell Lapland: The itinerary
The length of the wilderness tour (3 or 4 nights in the wilderness) varies depending on the day of arrival (Wednesday or Saturday). You can find more details in the following description.
Day 1: Arrival & Preparation
Look forward to some unforgettable days in Lapland and enjoy the incredible views of Finland's white winter wonderland on your journey to the husky camp. After you have arrived you can settle into your simple but cozy accommodation. Then, depending on your arrival time, you will receive your equipment for your stay right away or the next morning. Afterwards, a hearty dinner awaits you. Here, you will meet your fellow travellers and get in the mood for the days ahead together. You will spend your first night in one of the double rooms in the log cabins right next to the dog camp. Enjoy the anticipation of the adventures to come and the pleasant peace and quiet, interrupted only by the howling of the huskies.
Catering on site starts with dinner on the first day and ends with breakfast on the last day. Accommodation is available from 16:00.

Day 2: Introduction day with the huskies
After breakfast it is time to meet the excited huskies! You will visit the dog camp where you will be welcomed by your guides and taught everything you need to know in order to drive the sled. Afterwards, you'll go on your first tour through the picturesque winter landscape. Back at the camp, you can share the day's experiences with the group over dinner. Finally a good night of sleep will set you up for your big adventure the next morning.
If you have arrived on a Wednesday, the multi-day wilderness tour already starts today and therefore lasts 1 night longer.
Day 3 – 6: Through the wilderness of Lapland
The next few days are filled with adventure in the breathtaking landscape of Lapland. Together with your dog team, you will cross large swamps, dense forests and frozen lakes and rivers. You can expect to spend approximately 8 hours each day with the dogs, between 3 and 6 of which will be travelling; covering anything from 30 km to 60 km. Trip and travelling times can vary depending on the weather conditions.
Accommodation will be in log cabins which are supplied with gas stoves and wood ovens. These cabins mostly have no electricity or running water meaning that it will need to be collected from nearby lakes or rivers. Sometimes you even need to melt snow. Cooking, chopping wood, heating the wood-burning sauna and feeding and caring for your furry friends are shared responsibilities among the group. There will also be plenty of time for you to enjoy quiet reflection in the tranquillity of the wilderness. In the evenings and nights you can marvel at the incredible clarity of the starry sky - with a bit of luck even accompanied by the magical Northern Lights.
On the last day of your wilderness tour, you will return to the dog camp where you must say a fond farewell to your huskies. You can then relax with a hot shower, followed by a delicious Finnish meal.
Day 7: Day at leisure
Except from returning your cold weather clothes and equipment, the rest of the day is free for you to spend as you please. The lodge can help you organise a number of activities including snowmobiling or snowshoeing (can only be booked on the spot for an additional charge). You can also go for a walk with one of the older huskies. In the evening, you'll have one final traditional Finnish meal and spend your last night in the log cabins next to the the dog camp.
Day 8: Farewell to the far north
After a final breakfast, it's time to say goodbye. The rooms must be vacated by 10:00 am. For late flights, you can wait on the grounds until it is time to leave. With unforgettable memories in your luggage, you will start your journey home, enriched by the experiences and the unique bond you have built up with the huskies.
Note: The sequence of tour itineraries is subject to change depending on weather conditions.
Accommodation:
During the multi-day dog sledding tour you will stay in traditional wilderness cabins together with the other participants (shared accommodation), without electricity or running water. These simple but cozy cabins are equipped with gas stoves and wood ovens and let you enjoy the life far away from modern civilisation. The toilet is an outhouse, so you will have to go outside to use it and there is a wood-burning sauna for washing, which you have to heat yourself.
The remaining nights are spent in log cabins right next to the husky camp. There are four cabins, each with three double bedrooms. There are two single beds in two bedrooms per cabin and a double bed in one. The allocation is made by our partner on site. Each cabin has two bathrooms with shower and toilet for communal use as well as a large living room and a kitchen. There is also a typical local kota where the meals will be served during your stay in the camp, as well as two saunas and jacuzzis. The husky camp is right next door, so you are welcome to visit the dogs at any time.
Important tour information:
Due to the active nature of this tour, it is necessary for you to possess a good level of fitness. Team spirit is crucial as all camp activities must be done collectively by the group and will include collecting/chopping wood and other physical work. You should also be able to help the huskies where required on challenging terrain (push the sled on uphill and deep snow parts). Facilities within the cabins will be extremely limited with no electricity or running water, a wood-burning sauna in place of a shower and one outhouse used as a toilet. Whilst all cabins are equipped with warm bed clothing, their wilderness location means that your hosts are not able to change the bed linen after each overnight visit and therefore we strongly recommend that you bring a thin/summer weight sleeping bag with you. You should also bring your own towels for the tour. The luggage that you can take with you on the wilderness tour is limited to approx. 6 kg (therefore the small backpack, see equipment).
There may be some extremely low temperatures and particularly difficult snowy conditions.
Age limit:
This tour is suitable for people aged 16 - 70.
Weight restriction:
Please note the weight restriction of 50 - 100 kg. If you are too light, it can be difficult to control a dog team in complicated situations. On the other hand, if the weight is too heavy, the dogs can no longer pull the sled. If you are not within the above weight limits, we will be happy to review your specific case with the husky camp. Guests who have not communicated their weight in advance may be weighed on site.
Single travellers and groups with an odd number of people:
It is not possible to book a single room on this tour. However, you can share a double room with another person of the same sex travelling alone. The wilderness cabins in which you will spend the nights en route are shared accommodation.
Additional Information:
The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay. For this reason, corona-related reasonable usage rules or restrictions may arise when using said services. Please note these official requirements (Google Translate).
