The beginning of your trip will see you heading out in pairs on breath-taking snowmobile tours across untouched snow-covered landscapes. During the latter half of your tour you will discover how the people of Yukon traditionally travelled. After a quick lesson, you will be able to mush your very own dog sled team through the serene wilderness surrounding Fish Lake.
Yukon Dog Sledding & Snowmobile Adventure: Tour Itinerary
Day 1
You will be collected from your hotel just after 9am, where after checking you have everything you need, you will start the short journey to the beautiful area of Fish Lake and the Yurt Basecamp. A complete orientation will ensure that you know where you are going, and if you need to hire your warm weather gear you will have the opportunity to collect it. After lunch in the main dining yurt, you will be given a thorough introduction to your snowmobile along with a safety briefing. Then you can head out and start exploring the frozen, lonely trails in the surrounding area. Return to the lodge for a hearty dinner with the rest of your tour group. Keep a look out during the evening, as if the conditions are right you may see the phenomenal Aurora Borealis aka the Northern Lights.
Day 2
Breakfast is served in the main lodge; after which you will meet your tour guide ready to start your snowmobile tour around Fish Lake. There are some stunning sights, so make sure you have your camera at the ready! Return to the Yurt Basecamp for a delicious lunch, and then head out again for an afternoon of more adventure on the trails surrounding the camp. Return to the lodge for a delicious dinner, Yukon-style and enjoy an evening at your leisure. Overnight in the lodge.
Day 3
Your final snowmobile day will start with a tasty breakfast served in the main lodge. Then get ready for a full day out on the snowmobiles, experiencing exhilarating speeds across exciting terrain including the boreal forest and subalpine landscapes. Lunch will be served on the trail to allow you to make the most of your day. In the evening you will return to the main lodge for dinner with your tour group. Don’t forget to keep checking for an appearance of the Northern Lights! Stay overnight in the lodge.
Day 4
Today you will get the chance to step back in time and experience the traditional method of transportation around the Yukon – dog sledding. Your guide will explain the itinerary for the day before taking you to meet your very own husky team. These magnificent creatures will work hard for you so that you can enjoy everything that mushing has to offer! Your guide will teach you the basics of caring for your dogs, and of course how to drive the sled. Then it is time to head out on your very first dog sled journey! You will travel on peaceful, untouched trails, stopping for lunch on the way. Once you return you will feed, water and give some well-deserved attention to your dogs, before enjoying your own delicious hot dinner. Relax with a shower and sauna, and get a good night of rest before tomorrow’s adventures!
Day 5
A fun-filled day awaits you today. After feeding your dogs and prepping them for the trails, you will mush out towards Jackson Lake, a distance of approximately 35km. The secluded trails will give you a chance to enjoy the tranquillity, where your sled and the crunching of paws across the snow are the only sounds that you will hear. Return back to the lodge for overnight accommodation and a chance to reflect upon your amazing day.
Day 6
Today will see you heading east away from the ranch and towards an old abandoned mining road on McIntyre Mountain. The route takes a slight incline, meaning that your four-legged friends will have to work hard. Enjoy the stunning rugged landscapes, the deep valley surrounding Fish Lake, and the wildlife that may pop up along the way. Don’t forget your camera! A hot shower is waiting for you back at the lodge, where you can eat a delicious dinner with the rest of your tour group.
Day 7
Today you will head west of the ranch to the stunning Bonneville Lake. Incredible scenery awaits you again, as the slightly more challenging trail takes you up inclines, across plateaus and down again, all shadowed by the coastal mountains on the south and west. In the late afternoon, you will transfer back to Whitehorse, where you will receive your musher diploma and a shuttle pass for the next day. Enjoy a final night in the Best Western Gold Rush Inn.
Day 8
During breakfast, you can relive some of the highlights of your adventures at the Sky High Wilderness Lodge. The Whitehorse shuttle will then take you on to the airport for your journey home, taking with you some incredible memories of your time husky sledding in Yukon.
