Husky Adventure Tour

This amazing tour is ideal for adventurers who are keen to learn the wonderful techniques of dog mushing. During the early part of the tour, you will be taught everything that you need to know about traditional dog mushing, before taking your own team of furry friends out onto the quiet training grounds and putting your knowledge and skills to the test! Starting on simple terrain, each day the trails will get a little trickier, meaning that by the time the tour has ended you will be competent at taking your team on a variety of different routes.

Husky Adventure Tour: Tour Itinerary

Please note that tours begin on a Saturday or a Wednesday. All itineraries are subject to change based on the weather and ability of the tour participants. In some cases, your guide may choose to leave for the camp early and spend three nights there instead.

Day 1
After being picked up from the lobby of your hotel in Whitehorse around 10am, you will head out with the rest of your group to do any last minute shopping for the tour ahead. Then you will drive approximately 20km south of Whitehorse to the Sky High Wilderness Ranch. After a hot lunch, you will be able to meet your Huskies, who will be very excited to see you! Then you will learn everything that you need to know about caring for your four-legged companions and looking after your sled and equipment. Then it’s off and out for your very first mushing experience! Take it easy and your guide will be on hand to provide assistance as you get to grips with your sled and dog team. During the evening relax with a warm shower, sauna, and a delicious hot dinner served by the fire. Stay overnight in the ranch lodge.

Day 2
After a night of refreshing sleep, you will be up early to greet your furry friends and provide them with breakfast. Sitting in the dining room for your own breakfast, your guide will run through the plan for the day which will include mushing approximately 35km towards Lake Jackson. Listening to the soft crunch of your dog’s paws on the lonely, frosted trail as they pull you closer to your destination. Rewarding them for their hard work is the perfect time to create a real bond with these noble creatures. Overnight again in the ranch lodge where a hot sauna will help unwind your body and mind.

Day 3
Today will see you heading out to the east, mushing uphill to an old abandoned mining road that leads up McIntyre Mountain. You will witness impressive rugged landscapes and the deep valley leading down to Fish Lake. Wildlife is abundant in this area, so keep your eyes peeled! Back at the lodge you can feed and care for your hard-working Huskies, before enjoying dinner with the rest of your tour group. We are sure that you will have plenty to recount from the day! Overnight in the ranch lodge.


Day 4
Another glorious day of husky sledding will take you west of the ranch, towards the magnificent Bonneville Lakes. Your previous days of mushing will be a great experience, for the trails here are narrower and slightly more challenging. Be prepared for some breath-taking scenery as the incredible coastal mountains are always at the edge of your vision. Today you will cover between 20-30km across some of the best terrain Yukon has to offer. Back to the lodge in the evening where you will be grateful for a hot shower and meal, before retiring for a great night of sleep.

Day 5
The biggest adventure starts here. Today you will head out for 2 nights/3 days of camping at a wall tent camp at Dry Creek. You will mush your husky team deeper into the terrain surrounding Fish Lake, following the quiet shores before travelling up into the southern coastal mountain range. There will be plenty of opportunities for some incredible photos during this day. In the evening, curl up in your cosy wall tent for a good night of sleep.

Day 6
Breakfast will be served in the wall tent kitchen, and then it is up and out again to make the most of the day! If the weather is favourable then your tour group will head up above the tree line to the top of the mountain. Wind-swept hill-tops await the paws of your four-legged friends! Enjoy another night of camping overnight at Dry Creek.

Day 7
Sadly, today will be your last day of mushing. After a hearty breakfast with the rest of your tour group, you will take your husky team back west towards Sky High Lodge. Spend a few moments taking in the beautiful, quiet and serene landscape before you leave. These are memories not to be forgotten. You will arrive back at the lodge by lunchtime, where you can eat and then bid a very fond farewell to your canine companions who have served you so well. Then you can pack your belongings and transfer back to Whitehorse, where you will receive your musher diploma!

Day 8
Enjoy a final night in the Best Western Gold Rush Inn, before you head on your journey home, taking with you some incredible memories of your time husky sledding in Yukon.

Accommodation For four evenings you will be able to relax in the cosy, comfortable lodge where you can enjoy a hot shower and sauna. You will then spend two nights camping at the wall tent camp out in the untouched wilderness. At the end of your tour, you will have a final night of accommodation at the Best Western Gold Rush Inn at Whitehorse before your final journey home. Please be aware that the camps have no power or telephone, showers are gravity-fed and not available in the tent camp. Shower and sauna are available at the lodge. We reserve the right to change the itinerary of any tour should weather conditions, temperature or the needs of the group or animals demand it. The safety and wellbeing of our guests and dogs is paramount, and our decisions regarding itineraries are final. All meals are included except breakfasts in Whitehorse, and dinner on Day 7 in Whitehorse.

Requirement Please be aware that husky sledding requires a reasonable level of fitness. We will provide you with boots to wear during your trip, but you will need to hire or bring high-quality outdoor winter clothing with you. Please let us know at the time of booking if you wish to arrange for hire.
