Itinerary: Antarctic Peninsula: Crossing the Circle

Arrive in Buenos Aires, a city rich in European heritage and diverse architecture. You will make your own way to the group hotel, included as part of the transfer package, where you will spend the night before the expedition.

Day 2: Flight to Ushuaia and Embarkation
After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for the charter flight to Ushuaia. Upon arrival, you will have time to explore the port town independently before boarding. In the afternoon, the ship departs and sails through the Beagle Channel towards the Southern Ocean.
Day 3 & 4: Crossing the Drake Passage
During the days at sea, the expedition team offers lectures on photography, wildlife, glaciology and history. In addition, you can watch for wildlife from the deck and share your observations and impressions with fellow guests.
Day 5 to 7: South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula
Zodiac excursions allow you to explore hidden bays, winding channels and selected landing sites. Fascinating wildlife encounters await: Gentoo, Adélie and Chinstrap penguins waddle across the beaches, and seals such as crabeater and Weddell seals can often be seen. Occasionally, the elusive leopard seal may appear. With some luck, humpback and minke whales can be spotted in the surrounding waters. On selected departures, optional activities include helicopter flights or kayaking and paddling excursions, offering a new perspective on the landscapes (additional cost).
Day 8 & 9: Antarctic Circle
When weather conditions are favourable, the southern polar circle at 66°33'S can be crossed. Here you will experience the midnight sun, vast ice landscapes and the tranquil beauty of the remote Antarctic. Observations of Weddell seals and sea ice provide insights into the life and dynamics of the Antarctic marine ecosystem.
Day 10 & 11: Northwards Along the Peninsula
As you travel north along the peninsula, Zodiac excursions continue to provide exciting discoveries: you may spot seabirds, penguins and seals, and terms such as “Bergy Bits” or “Pancake Ice” will already become part of your field vocabulary.
Day 12 & 13: Return Crossing of the Drake Passage
The return journey across the Drake Passage offers time to reflect on the experiences of the past days. The expedition team concludes their lectures with slideshows of the wildlife and landscapes you have observed. On deck, you can enjoy the seascapes once more and share your impressions with fellow guests.
Day 14: Disembarkation in Ushuaia and Flight Back to Buenos Aires
After breakfast, you will disembark in Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. The fresh air and the impressive scenery of the Beagle Channel provide a final impression of Patagonia’s rugged beauty before the group charter flight returns you to Buenos Aires.
Additional Information:
The expedition lasts 14 days and departs from Buenos Aires on the World Voyager. Departure dates may vary.
Experience the largely untouched beauty of Antarctica and collect impressions that will stay with you for years to come. As spaces for this expedition are limited, early booking is recommended to secure your place and prepare for a varied and memorable adventure.
Additional Information for Expedition Cruises: The itinerary and route described are provided as examples only and may be adjusted or changed at any time due to weather, ice and tidal conditions, as well as for safety reasons. Specific landing sites, locations or route sections therefore cannot be guaranteed. The captain and expedition leader will make all final decisions regarding the route, landings and daily programme on site. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. Landings and Zodiac excursions depend on local conditions and regulatory requirements. Optional activities have very limited availability; we recommend booking them well in advance, often weeks or months before departure, as they may be fully booked by the time of travel; their operation depends on weather, ice and safety conditions as well as minimum participation. Polar regions are remote and dynamic natural environments, therefore programme changes or delays may occur.
