Ocean Nova
The Ocean Nova is a small expedition vessel designed for voyages in the polar regions. With a maximum of around 80 guests on board, it offers a personal atmosphere and allows for an immersive experience of nature – far removed from the scale of traditional cruise ships. Thanks to its compact size, the vessel can reach remote bays and stretches of coastline that are often inaccessible to larger ships. The Ocean Nova was built in Denmark in 1992 for operations in ice-prone waters around Greenland. Its reinforced hull and robust construction make it a proven platform for expedition travel in Antarctica. The small number of passengers brings a key advantage: in many cases, all guests can go ashore at the same time, meaning Zodiac excursions and landings can take place without long waiting times. This leaves more time to experience Antarctica’s landscapes and wildlife up close. On board, guests can expect a relaxed and informal atmosphere. The panorama lounge with its sweeping views forms the heart of the ship and is an ideal place for wildlife spotting or attending lectures by the expedition team. It is complemented by a restaurant, a library, several open deck areas and a small fitness room. Another distinctive feature of the Ocean Nova is its comparatively low fuel consumption, making it one of the more efficient expedition vessels operating in Antarctica. In addition, guests have the opportunity to take part in a citizen science programme during the voyage, contributing to scientific projects and helping to support ongoing research in the polar regions.
