A winter camping tour in the legendary Yukon will give you countless new experiences and memories, and makes the perfect short break for those leading busy lives!
Husky Winter camping in the Yukon: The itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Head Out Into The Wilderness
Start your day with a hearty breakfast as today is the first day of your adventures in the wilds of Canada! After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel lobby at around 10 am and quickly do any last shopping with your travel group. After this, you will head some 20 km to the Sky High Ranch, and you will be provided with the necessary polar clothing. After a light lunch, you will get to meet your excited huskies! You will be greeted with anticipation and have a chance to get acquainted with your new four-legged friends. Then you will learn the basics of dog sledding and dog care. Harness up your team and get ready to start your adventure! Let yourself be enchanted and enjoy the amazing view. The route will take you to Fish Lake and the mountains, where you will spend the night in cosy tents.
Day 2: On Historic Paths
After a restful night of sleep, start your day with a hearty breakfast. You will be greeted by the morning sun and your faithful Huskies, who cannot wait to embark on a new adventure with you! Feed your furry friends and get them ready for the day ahead. Today, you will follow the historical paths around your encampment and get to know the surrounding area. You will cover a distance of some 35km today and visit the secluded Jackson Lake. After an exciting tour with fantastic views, you will return to the camp and end the evening around the campfire. With a bit of luck, you may even see the magical Northern Lights dancing in the night sky above you.
Day 3: Husky Experience & Farewell
With the sun rising over the mountain peaks, another day of peace and beautiful views stretch out before you. With your husky team in tow, you will prepare everything ready for your last adventure on this journey. You will get a chance to see the beautiful Bonneville Lakes amongst other spectacular scenery as you head back to the Sky High Lodge. You will pass through snow-capped forests and glide over frozen lakes, breathing in every last breath of the clean, cool mountain air and truly taking in the surroundings. Once you arrive back at the lodge, it will sadly be time to say goodbye to your faithful four-legged companions. After a final lunch together, you will be transferred to Whitehorse at the Best Western Rush Inn, where you will receive your mushing diploma. Spend your last evening in the city.
Day 4: Departure
After a final breakfast, this all-inclusive break ends and you begin your onward journey home from Whitehorse. There will be many unique experiences and memories to take home with you — of the lovable Huskies and your journeys in the snow-covered wilderness; all of which you can treasure for years to come.
Accommodation:
You will spend two nights of this experience sleeping in a winter tent in the pristine wilderness. At the end of Husky Winter Camping in the Yukon, you will spend your final night at the Best Western Gold Rush Inn in Whitehorse before transferring back to the airport. Please note that the camp has neither electricity nor running water. There is a traditional sauna/washing facility on site. All meals are included, with the exception of breakfast in Whitehorse before you embark on your journey, and dinner on the last day in Whitehorse before you head home.
Requirements: Please note that the Yukon Sledge Dog Tour requires a minimum level of fitness. The boots you need during your trip are provided by us. You can bring your own high-quality outdoor winter clothing or it can be rented. Please let us know when booking whether you will need to rent any clothes.
Important Information: We reserve the right to change the itinerary of all Yukon dog sled tours, if necessary due to the temperature and weather, or if the needs of the group or the animals require it. The safety of our guests and animals is our top priority on all of our tours. The far north can have fluctuating and unpredictable weather with very strong temperature differences. Whilst we strive to follow the planned trails as closely as possible, we reserve the right to change the order of activities, the route of safaris, and the intensity of the excursions should the needs of our guests or animals necessitate it, or if the weather conditions compromise our pre-planned route. This involves both adjustments due to insufficient snow (meaning we cannot drive the sleds) or too much snow (snowstorms and extreme cold can cause accidents and various other problems). The required adjustments and fallback options in rare cases are based on the day-to-day conditions and can be compensated by shorter or longer daily stages, alternative accommodations, or even single day trips. In extremely rare cases we may organise alternative transport (ie. cars, quad bikes, etc). Feel free to contact us if you would like a more detailed assessment of this tour and travel period. The service providers and tour providers always perform their services in compliance with and in accordance with the official requirements and requirements applicable at the time of stay. Es war ein phantastisches Abenteuer in einer traumhaft schönen Landschaft. Das Team um die Tour ist immer freundlich und professionell gewesen. Die Hunde sind toll und man bekommt schnell einen sehr innigen Kontakt zu ihnen. Auch die Verpflegung war hervorragend. Der Aufenthalt im Zeltcamp war sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber auch ein großes Abenteuer. Einfach ein unvergessliches Erlebnis!
